So I woke up to see the rumours that have taken the internet by storm this morning. That Captain America 3 will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and that this will be the start of the Civil War storyline. The Civil War storyline, for those that don’t know, was a comic arc that revolved around a superhero registration act, making superheroes apart of the law. Iron Man was for it and Captain America was against it and people took sides then it all kicked off.
Now one of the problems people are having about turning this into a film storyline is that, are there enough characters in the MCU to warrant calling it a civil war? I think it could work, you have the main Avengers so that’s 6 already, Doctor Strange and Ant Man, the Netflix series adds another 4. Then you have guys who appear in the solo films, War Machine, The Falcon, possibly Winter Solider if his retribution is done by then. Plus we’re getting Vision, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and the big rumour that Spider-Man is coming back into the fold. And I’m sure if need be, they could use Agents of S.H.IE.L.D. to introduce anyone else. This also lends weight to the rumours that Avengers 3 is going to feature Iron Man and a new team of heroes, with Avengers 4 being the reunion. The way it could play out is the Superhero registration act takes place with people picking up sides, I imagine whoever is in charge won’t make Iron Man out to be a villain in this, or Captain America. The people who take Tony Stark’s side make up the Avengers in Avengers 3, with Thanos winning the battle, with Avengers 4 being the moment of glory where everyone is reunited and beats Thanos, by then we’ll hopefully see Captain Marvel and Black Panther added to the mix. I’m just sad that Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes never got a second season because that’s where it looked like they were heading.
In the MCU we trust.
