Ranking the weeks comic book movie reveals

It felt like this was a week where studios with comic book properties decided to reveal character from said properties. I’m not complaining, after all, it is the week DareDevil came out and the first showing of Avengers, so other studios took that chance to get themselves a little buzz.

5. Justice League Cast Reveal

Suicide Squad

Coming in at number 5 is a cast picture without anyone actually in costume, which is cool, but it doesn’t beat the rest of the reveals this week. However it does have Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, AKA Adibisi, AKA the man who I hope will end up winning the Game of Thrones, then tipping his crown to the side. He will be playing Killer Croc, and if he channels some of that Beware the Batman Killer Croc, then we’re in for a treat. This picture also made everyone ask where is Jared Leto, which isĀ  the first time that has happened.

4. Jared Leto as The Joker

And here he is taking the picture and channelling the classic Killing Joke cover. Yeah so his hair is gone, which is a shame, because it looked mad soft, but it is what it is. I’m cautious about this film, however I am looking forward to it, probably a bit more than Batman vs Superman, feel like with this one they can let loose a little bit.

3. DareDevil costume

daredevil

I’ve written before about how i don’t actually hate Affleck’s DareDevil film, but this series looks like it takes it to another level (I haven’t had a chance to start it yet.) But part of me feels like this costume doesn’t actually suit him, I’m sure it looks better on screen but in this image, just not feeling it.

2. The Thing

the thing

Despite the lack of eyebrows, The Thing looks really good. I have this weird feeling, and it’s probably completely wrong, that this has a chance to exceed expectations, which isn’t too hard considering expectations for it are so low. I didn’t hate the trailer, it had an epic sci fi feel, while I would prefer a more light hearted take on the characters, you can’t write off something based just on the trailer, well you can, that’s kind of the point of trailers, but yeah, I’ll check it out.

1. Vision

Vision

Along with positive reviews for his part in Age of Ultron, this week has been a week of Vision. Marvel has kind of kept him under wraps until very recently, but we got a proper look at him this week, and what a look it is. Taking enough of the comics without looking too cartoony, this shot Vision and the hype around the first responses saying he is the person to look out for has me really excited, which I obviously already was, because it’s Avengers.

Suicide Squad gets its all star cast

I’ll admit, when I heard rumours of Will Smith and Tom Hardy, I didn’t fully believe it. But now it’s official, Suicide Squad has its squadrons

Will Smith is Deadshot

Tom Hardy is Rick Flagg

Margot Robbie will finally be bringing Harley Quinn to the big screen

Jai Courtney continues the tradition of Spartacus stars in DC properties

Cara Delevinge is Enchantress

and Jared Leto is The Joker himself

That is real all star cast man, DC going all in for this film.

Jared Leto comments on Suicide Squad/Joker rumours by not commenting

Rumours have been circling the internet recently that Jared Leto has been in talks to play the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad and presumably as part of the DC Cinematic Universe. It makes sense, this is a new reboot of the DC universe with a new Batman detached from Christian Bale’s and the Joker is the ultimate Batman villain.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, when Jared Leto was asked he responded with “I’ve sworn to keep my mouth shut,” similar to Jason Momoa’s responses when being asked about Aquaman. With the other rumours about the cast, Tom Hardy and Will Smith, it looks like DC are really planning on making the Suicide Squad film a big deal.

Jai Courtney might be Deadshot, does DC have a thing for Spartacus?

News broke over night that the role of Deadshot in the Suicide Squad might be played by Jai Courtney. One of Courtney’s most iconic roles was in the incredible underrated Starz Spartacus series as Varro, a friend of Spartacus. Higher ups at DC seem to have a thing for Spartacus alumni, which is understandable, Spartacus was a comic book show without having a comic book, from the blood splattering, the violence, the backstabbing, Spartacus had it all. After all we saw Manu Bennett played Deathstroke in Arrow, along with Katrina Law who is Nyssa al Ghul, Nick Tarabay as Captain Boomerang and Cynthia Addai-Robinson who plays Amanda Waller.

I don’t whether there is some sort of Spartacus takeover going on at DC at the moment but I’m glad to see stars from that show getting a chance in Hollywood.

Margot Robbie reportedly cast as Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movie

We heard the rumours that Jared Leto was interested in playing The Joker and now we get the news many fans have been waiting for. We’re finally getting Harley Quinn in a movie. Collider is reporting that Australian actress Margot Robbie will be playing the iconic character.

Harley Quinn is interesting in that it’s not a comic book original, the character originated in Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s classic Batman: The Animated Series where she became very popular and is now firmly a part of the DC universe. I wonder if that’s what The Joker casting will be about, using him briefly to show Harley Quinn’s origin story, her as his psychiatrist at first then showing the descent into madness she goes through to eventually donning the jester suit. Though that would be a strange way to introduce The Joker to this new DC Cinematic universe, but I don’t want to see him as a full on member of the Suicide Squad. Maybe we’re going to get something similar to the Assault on Arkham animated movie that came out recently.

Will Lex Luthor be in Suicide Squad?

Deadline are reporting that discussions are taking place between Warner Brothers and Jesse Eisenberg for him to star in Suicide Squad. Warner Bros must be confident that he is going to be popular enough in Batman V. Superman to carry over into another film. Could it be tied into Justice League as well?

They’re going all out for Suicide Squad by all accounts with Tom Hardy and Will Smith apparently being sought after for roles. It’s understandable, out of all of DC’s upcoming movies, Suicide Squad has the least brand recognition. It’s also kind of a risk doing what is essentially a villain movie.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Eisenberg does with the role, he has a real creepy vibe to him and if he can tap into that, he could be a really good villain..

DC responds to Civil War talk with plans for Justice League, Wonder Woman and more along with Ezra Miller being The Flash

In a move that probably isn’t tied to the hype around Civil War talk but it’s fun to speculate anyway, today we got the announcement of Warner Bros’ superhero films leading up to 2020.

2016:

Batman v Superman

Suicide Squad

2017:

Wonder Woman

Justice League

2018:

The Flash

Aquaman

2019:

Shazam

Justice League 2

2020:

Cyborg

Green Lantern

I like DC’s diversity, we have Jason Momoa playing Aquaman along with Ray Fisher playing Cyborg and of course The Rock playing Black Adam. And we still don’t know what Green Lantern we’re getting, it could possibly be John Stewart. And finally a female superhero film (excluding Elektra). Hopefully this gives Marvel the incentive to finally give us Black Panther and Ms. Marvel movies.

It’s also been announced that Ezra Miller will play the Flash, breaking the hearts of CW fans everywhere. I know we’ve been told there would be no crossover, but the lack of Green Arrow casting still gave me hope.

There was a rumour going around for the Suicide Squad lineup the other day that didn’t feature Harley Quinn which is shocking to me, surely she’s going to be included, she needs to be on the big screen.

There will also be standalone Superman and Batman films.

Am I the only one waiting for the Comic Con panel that will show the whole cast similar to that epic Avengers one.
